Week 3 - Reflections and Prayers

Reflection

Throughout time traditions have played a part in people’s lives, whether it be religious, personal, familial or cultural, there are those events that we have all grown up with or heard stories about that resonate with us and remind us of someone or something special.

This Advent is no different, and many of us may not be able to experience some of those traditions this year, or we may need to think about how we continue them differently.

We encourage you to share some of your favorite traditions with one another, maybe it is a special family food, a show you always go to, a moving you always watch or a game that you always played.  Whatever the tradition, by sharing them we are able to reflect on times in our past and pass on to other generations.

Who knows maybe you can start a new tradition, like Face Timing one another and sharing the lighting of the Advent Wreath Calendar, or playing that beloved game.

Please share your traditions on our  Facebook Page, it provides some insight into our heritage, our present and provides hope for the future.  Let us know how you plan on continuing to pass them along, or new ones that you have started this year.

Prayer for the third week of Advent

ord God, we thank you for the rich tapestry of traditions that help shape our identity and give us roots.  Please comfort those who are missing the gift of family traditions this year and help us to have the strength and joy in our hearts during these discomforting times to start new ones.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Something TO DO

Watch “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”, list all of the Traditions the Whos enjoyed at Christmas, and those the Grinch stole.

Talk about the tradition that the Grinch could not take from the Who’s and why.

Consider putting a donation in the Advent Jar for each of the traditions that your family experiences throughout the Advent Season, who knows maybe the Advent Jar will become an annual tradition 😊

Scripture - Deuteronomy 6:20-25

20 In the future, when your son asks you, “What is the meaning of the stipulations, decrees and laws the Lord our God has commanded you?” 21 tell him: “We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, but the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand. 22 Before our eyes the Lord sent signs and wonders—great and terrible—on Egypt and Pharaoh and his whole household. 23 But he brought us out from there to bring us in and give us the land he promised on oath to our ancestors. 24 The Lord commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear the Lord our God, so that we might always prosper and be kept alive, as is the case today. 25 And if we are careful to obey all this law before the Lord our God, as he has commanded us, that will be our righteousness.

Write about Advent and Christmas traditions you enjoy.  What feelings and remembrances do they invoke?   How have these been a part of your Spiritual Journey?
