Week 4 - Reflections and Prayers

Reflection

Throughout the Bible Angels appear to people of all walks of life, causing fear, hope and sharing messages of things to come.

As we consider those that the Angels visited throughout the Advent Journey, we have an opportunity to reflect on the way that each of them reacted; the fear of the shepherds, Zechariah being startled and gripped with fear, Mary troubled and perplexed.  But by the time the Angels had finished their messages each and every one had received a message of peace and hope.

This week we would like you to share with one another your stories of the Angels in your life.  Those human Angels, that have been there by your side, on the phone, or you just met in passing, how have they brought you to peace and hope.

Please share the stories of your Angels on our Facebook page, and remember they are all around us, most of the time they are just waiting for us to open our hearts and ears to let them in .

Consider posting on our  Facebook Page where your name came from.

Prayer for the fourth week of Advent

Lord, we give you thanks for all the messengers of hope and good news.  Be there with us to guide us with your wisdom as we seek to share the good news of Christmas to others during this Advent season.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Something TO DO

As you are putting up your decorations, or receiving Christmas cards, count the Angels that are all around you.

Consider putting a coin in the Advent Jar for each Angel you find and consider how you can be an Angel for someone.

When it snows, bundle up and go outside to make snow angels.

Inside the house consider cutting out paper Angels and decorating them and put them in your windows.  Or create cards or pictures to send to the Angels in your life.

Scripture - John 1:1-18

Once when he was serving as priest before God and his section was on duty, he was chosen by lot, according to the custom of the priesthood, to enter the sanctuary of the Lord and offer incense. Now at the time of the incense-offering, the whole assembly of the people was praying outside.

Then there appeared to him an angel of the Lord, standing at the right side of the altar of incense. When Zechariah saw him, he was terrified; and fear overwhelmed him. But the angel said to him, ‘Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will name him John. You will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth, for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He must never drink wine or strong drink; even before his birth he will be filled with the Holy Spirit. He will turn many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God. With the spirit and power of Elijah he will go before him, to turn the hearts of parents to their children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.’

Zechariah said to the angel, ‘How will I know that this is so? For I am an old man, and my wife is getting on in years.’

The angel replied, ‘I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news. But now, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their time, you will become mute, unable to speak, until the day these things occur.’

During this Advent Journey have you been able to open to change, have you had some revelations about yourself, about others around you?

Have you received a message that found you caused you to be fearful, but found a way to come to peace?
