Week 5 - Reflections and Prayers

Reflection

What an Advent Journey Mary went on… She went from a simple teenager living with her parents, bethrothed to Joseph, to the woman who would carry Jesus, the son of God.  Not to mention the physical journeys that she carried out before the birth, her visit to her cousin Elizabeth and then the ride on a donkey to the City of David to be counted with her husband.

Many of us have gone on journeys to see our friends and families for Christmas, gathering with all generations of our relatives.   During these visits are there special people in your life that you were excited to see, someone who maybe you only saw once or twice a year, but when you saw them you knew you were welcomed with open arms and were home.

This week share those journeys and that special person who you were excited about seeing. Share what made them special in your life.

Consider posting on our  Facebook Page where your name came from.

The Angel Gabriel from Heaven Came

Prayer for the fifth week of Advent

Lord, provide me with the strength to be like Mary, whose faith and love changed the world.  Help me to listen with my heart and be accepting of those things that I cannot control graciously. In Jesus’ name Amen.

Something TO DO

Write the words, “I am the Lord’s Servant” on a piece of paper and draw a picture of yourself or attach a photograph.

Make a list of the people in your life who have shared their Spiritual Journey with you, and the ways that they were the Lord’s Servant.

Start to think about which of the Outreach organizations you will donate the money from the Advent Jar to.

Scripture - Luke 1:26–38

In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And he came to her and said, ‘Greetings, favoured one! The Lord is with you.’ But she was much perplexed by his words and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. The angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favour with God. And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his ancestor David. He will reign over the house of Jacob for ever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.’ Mary said to the angel, ‘How can this be, since I am a virgin?’ The angel said to her, ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be holy; he will be called Son of God. And now, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son; and this is the sixth month for her who was said to be barren. For nothing will be impossible with God.’ Then Mary said, ‘Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.’ Then the angel departed from her.

Consider what God was asking Mary to do, and the blessings that she received.

Consider what is God asking you to do?  Are you as accepting of his request as Mary was, or do you have hesitation?
